The present invention relates to an automatic transmission for vehicles. More particularly, the present invention relates to a planetary gear train of an automatic transmission for vehicles which can improve power delivery performance and fuel economy due to five or six forward speeds by using four planetary gear sets and five control elements.
2. Description of Related Art
Motor vehicles commonly have transmission units, and the transmission units can change the torque transferred from an engine and/or an electric motor. In order to achieve this purpose, the transmission units generally include planetary gear sets.
Recently, eight and nine speed automatic transmissions are often employed in motor vehicles. In this instance, the planetary gear sets are usually formed with four and five control elements such as clutches and brakes. However, the above mentioned control elements are generally actuated by hydraulic pressure, and the hydraulic pressure is generated by a hydraulic pump driven by the engine. This causes the powertrain efficiency to decrease.
